Why you should look carefully at labels in cereals if you are vegan

Would you like to know why you should look carefully at labels in cereals. That is because most cereals have honey or gelatin in them. If you see any chemicals that you don't know then watch one of the online videos that tells you what that chemical is. Whey, butter, and buttermilk are made from milk.

What vegans like us eat

Would you like to know what vegans like us eat? For breakfast we eat Miniwheats without gelatin, honey, or any kind of non-vegan thing. We also eat raisin bran or drink a smoothie. For lunch we have a peanut-butter-and jelly sandwich with vegan bread, beans, peas, a vegan trail mix, and Kale and Yam soup. We drink Silk almond milk for lunch. But I cannot name all of them because there are a lot of possibilities. For dinner on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays we eat a salad, a vegan pizza, some Sierra Mist,a vegan cheese sandwich, our wheat gluten 'chicken nuggets', and African Kale and Yam soup. Sierra mist is a vegan soda. We do not always eat some of things listed that we have for dinner earlier. On Fridays we choose any vegan food we have or can make at home.

Why vegans don't go to animal circuses

Would you like to know why vegans don't go to animal circuses? That is because at first the elephants are trained at Ringling's breeding center with ropes and bullhooks. It hurts the elephants. It is a painful and very bad for the elephants. The elephants only do tricks because they are scared of what will happen to them if they don't.
It starts when baby elephant's necks are tied up to an 'anchor' elephant. The anchor elephant is the bigger elephant that pulls the baby along. The baby elephants don't like it because it hurts them. Then the are chained up in the barn for at least 23 hours a day. That ruins the elephants mind. A baby is roped by itself in the barn. It struggles, but just gets rope burns. It might take 6 months before they stop struggling. Ringling's breeding center is just a place that tortures animals and makes them learn silly tricks. The trainers whip the elephants to make them learn to do their tricks. The baby elephants are slammed to the ground. The trainers slam them to the ground with bullhooks and electric prods. They train it to lie down with ropes. The baby elephants are slammed to the ground using bullhooks and electrical prods. The baby elephants are trained to sit on a tub with ropes, chains, bullhooks, and electric prods. And the baby elephants are never rewarded like Ringling's breeding center claims. They are only punished.
I think it is terrible that the baby elephants are treated this way and taken from their natural homes. The elephants don't want to do tricks at circuses. The baby elephants are just used to make money. The circus owners don't care about their animals. All they care about is getting rich.

The Vegan food pyramid

On the Vegan Food pyramid, you need 10% or less of unhealthy foods. You need 20-40% of seeds, nuts, and avocados. You need 20% or less of whole grains and potatoes. You need 10-40% of fruits, beans, and legumes. Vegetables, 1/2 raw and 1/2 cooked are 30-60% of your daily nutrition. You need the most of vegetables in a day. You want as little as possible of any kind of sugar or refined grain. Refined grains means white bread or any non-whole grain.

Vegan difficulties at holidays

I'd like to tell you why it is hard to go trick-or-treating on Halloween and what you can have on Thanksgiving instead of turkey, cranberry jelly, gravy, and stuffing. It is hard to go trick-or-treating on Halloween because you have to read the ingredients very carefully(see my blog post on The hardest part about being a vegan). If you would like to see a list of vegan Halloween candies, click here. If you are an all-natural vegan, then it is even harder to find vegan candy. At home we make our own candy. Two of our favorites are peanut-butter cups and junior mints. On Thanksgiving, you can have a bread feast or any other kind of feast. For a feast, you can make a lot of different kinds of whatever you chose. We might make a lot of different breads next Thanksgiving. My favorite is the pumpkin bread. Another idea would be to have a soup feast. My favorite is the African Kale and Yam soup.

The hardest part about being a vegan

These are some of hardest parts of being a vegan. One is that you may have to give up some foods you really enjoyed. Another is that it makes it difficult to go out to eat because most restaurants do not serve vegan foods. The final thing is that you have to read labels very carefully because some things sound vegan but they really are not. For example, gelatin sounds vegan but it is actually crushed animal bones.

What Dad's vegan chocolate ice cream is made of.

The ingredients to Dad's vegan chocolate ice cream are of the following: 1 cup of almond milk, 2 tablespoons of arrowroot powder, 2 cups of mimic creme, 3/4 a cup of sugar, 1/4 a cup of cocoa powder, 1/2 a cup of vegan chocolate chips, and1 tablespoon of vanilla extract. This ice cream is better then the non-vegan ice cream I used to have. It is creamier than the old kind. I like to add chocolate syrup (which we call 'grandpa sauce' in honor of Grandpa Phillips because he loved hot fudge sauce) and brownies.

how we get our milk

There is a good way to get calcium and vitamins while being vegan. The good way is to drink Silk Unsweetened Almond Milk. It has 45% of calcium, 10% of vitamin A, 25% of vitamin D, 25% of Riboflavin, 4% of Magnesium, 2% of Copper, 4% of Iron, 50%of Vitamin E, 50% of Vitamin B12, and 10% of Zinc. Since vegans don't drink cow milk, this is a yummy and healthy kind of milk because it has a lot of vitamins and minerals.

5 things that are good about being vegan

1. Dairy products and meat have saturated fat in them. Saturated fat is the worst kind of fat.
2. There is not enough carbohydrates in dairy products and meat. If you don't have enough carbohydrates your body will burn your muscle tissue.
3. Dairy products and meat don't have as much magnesium. The best way to get magnesium to eat nuts, seeds, and dark leafy greens.
4. There is not much folate in dairy products and meat. Folate helps cells reproduce.
5. No antioxidants are in meat and dairy products. Antioxidants help you not get cell cancer.

How to get DHA while being a vegan

DHA is an essential fatty acid. It is usually held inside of a gelatin capsule in the form of fish oil. It helps your brain and eyes function. Vegans can get it from an algae source which comes in the form of a vitamin or supplement. The bad thing about getting DHA from fish is that fish contain mercury.

Life of a pig on a factory farm

Would you like to know how a pig on a factory farm lives? Pigs on factory farms have no bedding. It make sores on their shoulders and knees. The floor and lack of exercise makes the pigs fat and have leg problems. The environment makes them chew the bars or chew nothing. Because of poor air quality, some pigs die of OTDS(Organic dust toxic syndrome) and ARDS (Acute respiratory distress syndrome. Because of dust, pigs die of PRRS(Porcine reproductive and respiratory system) and SIV( Swine influenza virus).
Do you think the pigs are happy? I think they aren't even close to happy with those diseases and everything. Would like to be one of those pigs? By buying any meats made from pigs, you are silently agreeing to the pigs being treated badly. If people didn't buy pig meat anymore less and less pigs would be treated badly.

The Vegan Fest

The Vegan Fest at Whole Foods in January of 2011 had samples that vegans would like. My favorite sample was the vegetable dumplings. My other favorites were the seaweed, the chocolate mousse, the chocolate coconut ice cream, the chocolate cupcakes, and the granola. Whole Foods is a good place to shop because it has non-dairy cheeses, milks, and fake meat.

My favorite vegan foods

Here are some of my favorite vegan foods. I like African Kale and Yam Soup. For yams we use sweet potatoes. Kale is something like lettuce. I also like vegan hot fudge sauce on caramel ice cream. You also can have something that is really easy to get: fruits and vegetables. You can also have peanut butter and jelly on cinnamon raisin bread. We love the recipes from The Happy Herbivore cookbook.

How to have a fun birthday while being vegan.

You can have a fun birthday while being vegan just like I did on my birthday. You can make vegan cake and ice cream. Instead of eggs you can use flax eggs. And there is coconut milk, almond milk, and soy milk instead of cow milk. For a substitute for butter, you can use earth balance. I will post these recipes later. You can still play with your toys. Don't ask for a wool sweater. That is because wool comes from sheep.

How a chicken on a factory farm feels.

If you were a chicken on a factory farm, you would be cramped in a coop so small you couldn't turn around. You would be forced to produce eggs and your babies are all taken away from you and you wouldn't get to see them ever. When you are too old to produce eggs, you are killed. This is how a chicken on a factory farm lives. This is mean because when the chicken are being killed, they don't use things that would numb the pain. Think about how you would feel if you were that chicken. You should note that the chicken is always cramped. It can't turn right. It can't turn left. It can't spread it's arms. It can't scratch itself. It barely even exists.
If you want to know what it really feels like, try going in a cramped closet with three other people where none of you can really move or even stand up. That is how the chicken feels.

Welcome Vegan Kids and everyone interested in veganism!

My name is Christian and I'm going to use this blog to share why I am a vegan. I'll talk about what happens on factory farms. I'll also talk about how animals would live if they weren't on factory farms. I will also talk about how veganism is great for your health. It is also good for the health of the animals you don't eat.
